The 2008 Tour for the Orchestra for Peace took place May 15-26 in France.
The Orchestra for Peace performed five concerts, with the support of the cities of Nevers, Paris and Lille,
the Conseil Général of Meurthe and Moselle, and the Crédit Agricole Ile-et-Villaine, to all of whom we express
gratitude.
All the musicians were reunited May 15th, 2008 in Paris at the Charles de Gaulle airport.
Each player was pleased to be amongst friends again, but all knew that the program planned by artistic director Nader Abbassi was rich and complex and that time was limited.
In less than a week, the orchestra prepared the Ouverture of l’Italienne à Alger, an opera of G. Rossini, the Concerto 23 for piano in A major of W.A. Mozart, Dace for Peace of N. Abbassi (created by and for the Orchestra for Peace in 2004), and the Symphony 4 “Italian” of F. Mendelssohn.
One of the most fundamental values of the Orchestra for peace is to maintain equality between Jews and Arabs. As a result, the Israeli conductor Assaf Leibowitz was hired as assistant conductor to Nader Abbassi, to conduct Mozart's 23rd "Piano Concerto" with Ramzi Yassa, a well-known French piano player, native of Egypt.
